March 27 - A Rose is a Rose 5 x 5 acrylic

A Rose is a Rose, and yet this one isn't really... it is done from a nicely colored SILK rose, yet it has done a Pinocchio-come-to-life under my brushes. This is a 5 x 5 inch acrylic, matching in texture the earlier peony from a week or so ago.

It is done wiht thin veils of dark values beneath and behind the flower, which is painted with white and other opaque pigments to have it float on the surface of the canvas. I learned this method from Al Brouillette back in the mid 80s. He has passed away, but his artwork and spirit lives on with his teaching.

This painting is available from my ebay store.

February 6 - Sycamore Leaf, Acrylic Painting

Every day when I go out our gate, I pass a couple of huge sycamore trees with their characteristic mottled trunks and large leaves. They have been asking me to paint them, and although I did paint the trees up the canyon a few days ago, I knew I wanted to do a study of one of their beautiful leaves.  So today's 6 x 8 acrylic is capturing the unique beauty of these hand-sized leaves that have fallen and rustle on the edge of the road. The sycamores are the first to lose their leaves and the first to re-leaf in the spring. $120.

November 28 - Cozy Onions, Acrylic 5 x 7

"Cozy" 5 x 7 Onions, cozying up to keep warm, now that the weather has changed into cold and crisp. Tonight I'm sore from aikido, and yawning to beat the band, but couldn't get upstairs without doing my daily painting! My being tired still makes a decent piece of work, because more of my intuitive processes take over. This is an acrylic, and painted from life on a gallery wrap canvas. $100

My goodness, I can hardly keep my eyes open! G'night! Oh, almost forgot--the decorator came back with, "Incredible! Amazing! Beautiful! What took you so long??????? It is perfect for my mtg tomorrow and maybe will be the final selection." Doesn't get much better than that!

Just sold to Marlene Frechette of Yuma, Arizona and Alberta, Canada
